SURUDEV CELELBRATES WORLD WATER DAY 2025

The International World Water Day 2025 was celebrated under the theme: Every great civilization began by a river. Empires rose where water flowed freely. Today, we live in a world more connected than ever, yet 2.2 billion people still lack access to safe water. Each year on March 22, World Water Day reminds us that the water crisis is not a distant issue – it is already here, and it is growing. Since 1993, this United Nations observance has emphasized the critical role of freshwater, the lifeblood of our planet. Glaciers store nearly 70% of the world’s freshwater. They feed rivers, support agriculture, and cool the planet. But they are melting faster than ever. In many parts of the world, these icy reserves are shrinking to record lows. Their disappearance threatens billions of lives. While commemorating the day in the Nkambe plateau, an area plagued by acute water shortage, SURUDEV sensitized some over 2000 folks on the importance of water to the communities and their livelihoods. The celebration ended with the sowing of some 15000 seeds of native medicinal and water-loving tree seeds species for planting to save water, biodiversity and improve the changing climate of the local landscape. The event took place in their Binka Eco-village.
