Sustainable Run for Development (SURUDEV) trained some 40 parents of children with special abilities during a two day workshop organized at the headquarters of the Christian Women Fellowship (CWF) in Ntahmulung neighborhood in Bamenda. The training falls in line with SURUDEV’s disability, environment and Livelihood program for the disabled also known as the Environmental and Socio-economic Empowerment of persons with disabilities (ESEEPD). The training took place on Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th of September 2024 with the enthusiastic parents trained on choice of mushroom species, economies of mushroom and its value chain, Compounding a substrate, the sterilization process and marketability (market trends). The trainers, Kari and Amos assured the trainees of a huge market in the mushroom sector especially with the white oyster species. The first day was meant for lectures and practical on compoundment and sterilization while the second day was reserved for planting. In all, a total of over 135 substrates were sterilized and planted with some over 68 seeds. Monitoring was program for weekly while mushroom would begin sprouting from the 21st day. After the first harvest, beneficiaries shall be trained on mushroom transformation and introduced in to a wider market.
