TRADITIONAL RULERS WELCOME LANDSCAPE RESTORATION ACTIVITIES WITH POMP AND AGILITY
The traditional Rulers of Binka, Binshua and Tabenken have welcomed SURUDEV’s landscape restoration initiative with a lot of pomp and agility. Talking to the executive Director of SURUDEV Kari Jackson, The Fon of Tabenken, his Royal highness Ngwayi Ndiboti welcomed the project and gave a no back-lash go ahead with total blessings from his kingdom. He urged his community to actively participate in the project to ensure the required outcomes are attained. In same light, his Royal highness the king of Binshua Fon Nfor Kimbi Clement (Ta Nfor Kwi Naa) applauded the project and was very enthusiastic. During the launch of the said project in his palace on July 20th 2023, he commissioned the town crier to blow the Fon’s whistle to rally all youths to actively participate in the project which he personally supervised the planting. After the planting of over some 10000 trees, he pledged his active follow up and engage in an active eucalyptus tree species replacement in the whole of his Fondom. The Fon of Binka, his royal majesty Fon Nfor Samuel Ombomeh during the project team’s maiden visit to his palace shared his dream of conserving the forest as a newly enthroned Fon and custodian of the people. He promised to actively participate and personally supervise the project in its entirety. The Fon even under the August heavy rains was spotted with the executive Director of SURUDEV planting trees in one of the sites behind the Nwarong house just near his palace. He proceeded by sensitizing farmers and encroachers into the forest and engaging in the replacement of eucalyptus which were erroneously planted in the catchments deep in the natural montane forest.
