As part of its mission to actively engage communities in Cameroon in order for them to attain a more self-reliant livelihood, the Sustainable Run for Development (SURUDEV has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Nkambe municipality in the Northwest Region with the vision of promoting environmentally friendly activities and promoting self-reliance amongst these rural people.
This MoU was signed recently in Nkambe. The Mayor of Nkambe Paul Ngabir Bantar signed on behalf of his municipality while Kari Jackson Bongnda, Executive Director of SURUDEV signed on behalf of his organization.
The Nkambe municipality is one of the localities in Cameroon where SURUDEV has been working with to promote environmental sustainability. Located on a plateau plagued by acute water shortage due to the indiscriminate planting of eucalyptus trees on water catchments; encroachment in to water catchments, poor farming practices and hunger, the municipality is in dire need of environmental reform.
It is therefore for this reason that SURUDEV entered into this memorandum of Understanding with this municipality. According to the MoU, SURUDEV will ensure environmental sustainability in the council through project proposals, execution, knowledge that will foster climate resilience and adaptation, sound agricultural practices and other activities that will boost economic livelihoods for the municipal dwellers. Nkambe council on her part will engage SURUDEV as a main development partner. She will also respond positively and mutually to the offers of SURUDEV and enjoy all the benefits and own the projects executed with the technical know-how of SURUDEV. This MoU is going to be a win –win partnership.
It is hoped that this is going to give a facelift to this municipality whose environmental problems have been on the rise over the last decade.
